The Science Behind Stress and AVE

When the brain perceives stress, it redirects cerebral blood flow away from the cortex and toward the body’s core, preparing for a “fight-or-flight” response. While this response was beneficial for our ancestors, it can be counterproductive in modern life.

This shift in blood flow can alter brainwave activity, increasing slower alpha and theta frequencies—patterns often observed in individuals with ADD and ADHD. As a result, people may experience increased distractibility, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, which can further elevate stress levels.
