For four decades, Mind Alive's DAVID devices have been at the forefront of innovation, consistently pushing boundaries, and setting new standards in its field of brain performance enhancement. This milestone anniversary is not just a testament to Mind Alive’s longevity, but also to our unwavering commitment to excellence and our ability to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing landscape.
Dave’s Humble Beginnings in Neurotechnology
In 1981, Dave Siever landed a job in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Dave was tasked to design a research lab for the diagnosis and treatment of Temporo-mandibular Dysfunction under the direction of Dr. Norman Thomas. Dave designed a variety of electronic devices for the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ Dysfunction and developed his own Advanced Diagnostics TMJ course. After his second year, Dave developed the Neuropulse 2, a handheld device used to pulse the trigeminal nerve and in turn, pulse the jaw-closing muscles to relax them for making myocentric-positioned splints. Dave was often spotted walking around the Dentistry building with a bunch of wires on his face, and over time, developed a reputation of being a mad scientist, along with Dr. Norman Thomas. A dental professor, who was a bit of a cartoonist, drew a picture of Dave and Dr. Thomas.
Dave’s first Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE) device was designed for an instructor in Performing Arts, who planned on using it to help students overcome stage fright. The instructor named this new device the Digital Audio-Visual Integration Device 1 (DAVID1) to recognize Dave's invention.
Several magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, and the book MegaBrain, promoted his DAVID1. Here, we see Dave and his wife, Nancy, who co-owns Mind Alive Inc. with Dave, with an insert of his large DAVID1 and some later models.
His later generation of AVE device, named the Paradise was on the market in 1990, and was featured on Archie!
The Paradise XL came out in 2000, followed by several devices, including the PAL, Delight, and several private-labels. The Paradise XL was unique in that it was the first with eye-field stimulation, making it possible to dramatically increase dissociation and settle the HPA-Axis in war-vets and those struggling with trauma and PTSD, but also allowed a different frequency to be stimulated in each side of the brain, which turned out to work very well for ADHD, an assortment of cognitive disorders and depression.
Dave was one of the first people to use EEG and qEEG to prove that AVE was changing brain wave activity and has published his EEG/qEEG findings on these discoveries. His favorite project and the one he continues to pursue, is the discovery of the Thalamocortical Disconnect and how it interferes with cerebral spinal fluid circulation, which can develop into Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Post Concussion Syndrome.
A Thalamocortical Disconnect (TCD) causes a shutting down of the thalamocortical network that is responsible for producing alpha and delta and coordinate memories from various regions of the brain. Symptoms include severe anxiety, severe insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and brain fog. Here we see the EEGs of a client with TCD and no alpha before and after only one session of AVE! He quit drinking alcohol shortly after getting back his alpha brain waves!
The wonderful part of using AVE is that once he got his alpha waves back, his brain continued to make them and he had no reason to continue drinking to manage his anxiety. He had 40 AVE sessions, which reestablished his alpha and delta brain waves for life! This EEG was taken three years later and shows that his brain continued to function beautifully!
The Premier is our most recent device and was released in December of 2025. It is by far, the most-advanced brain machine to date. Some of its advanced features are the ability to release all four opiates at the same time for pain reduction and the ability to stimulate the glymphatic system and increase cerebral spinal fluid circulation by 20% a minute. This is being used in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Post Concussion Syndrome and is showing promising results. The Premier also supports CES, MET, tDCS and tACS.
Mind Alive Today
Mind Alive Inc. continues to be owned and operated by Dave and Nancy Siever. Dave mainly focuses on research, development, and training. Their son, Shaun, is now the office manager.
Celebrating 40 years of success, Mind Alive Inc. stands as a beacon of design, research, and excellence in production of both quality products and customer service. Our journey is a story of vision, perseverance, and impact. As we move forward, we remain committed to making a difference and shaping a brighter future for all.
